Activities

Recreational activities are plentiful at The Nebraska Masonic Home. We know that getting together with friends is important at any age but especially during retirement years when we have more available time.

Indoor picnics are held twice each year when the members of Home Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star from Plattsmouth, and the Kensington of Narcissus Chapter from Omaha bring special potluck dinners for all residents.

East Lawn in FallPicnics, card games, cribbage, and dominoes are enjoyed by our residents. We have many crafts available to include embroidery, quilting, crocheting, knitting, and ceramics. There are decorations for all holidays, and our well-stocked craft room is a popular meeting spot. Here residents can socialize while they develop their creativity.

Bingo, exercise classes, bell choir, billiards, television, movies, musical entertainment, shopping trips, social times, and other popular activities provide the residents the opportunity to remain active and enjoy life.

Shrine Chanters Holiday celebrations are an important part of life at The Nebraska Masonic Home. Each Christmas season, the Shrine Chanters from Omaha perform for the residents. At the annual Christmas party, the Masters and Wardens Club of Omaha present gifts, which lodges throughout the state have provided.

Festive activities also take place on all other holidays each year. Regular, yearly parties are held to include family and friends. Outings including competitions at the state fair, trips to local orchards, "doing lunch" at restaurants in the surrounding area, trips to Joslyn, the zoo, and area shopping malls.

Independence Day is celebrated with an outdoor picnic and shooting off fireworks. On other holidays, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and other famous holiday icons are known to stop by to visit with the residents and make a smile or two.

Our Shrine Clowns stop by on occasion to create a stir and tease residents.

Grand Chapter Canopy Access is easy with our drive-under entrance. We call it the "Grand Chapter Canopy". It keeps our residents out of the rain when getting to and coming from activities.

Volunteers are always appreciated. If you would like to be a volunteer, call Jody Hellbusch at 402-296-7324 to make an appointment or just ask questions. Our volunteers do everything from bringing residents' children in to visit, providing bible study, reading to the visually impaired, playing and teaching cards, bringing in pets to visit the residents, or just helping out during bingo.
